چکیده

Commonsense reasoning requires extensive knowledge. In order to be useful for practical artiicial intelligence problems, a knowledge base needs to have millions of concepts and relations. The nature of knowledge is such that even solutions to relatively small, narrow artiicial intelligence problems require a great deal of knowledge. Unfortunately, knowledge cannot be modularized or partitioned. WordNet contains almost all English words, grouped into a hundred thousand synsets, which in turn are linked by semantic relations. But most importantly, each synset has a gloss that, when disambiguated, may increase the number of semantic relations by an order of magnitude. It takes a large eeort to build a very large knowledge base. Because of this, it is highly desirable that the knowledge base be generally applicable, such that it can be adaptated to a particular problem with as little eeort as possible. If the knowledge base is to be generally 684

Automatic Construction of Persian ICT WordNet using Princeton WordNet

WordNet is a large lexical database of English language, in which, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs are grouped into sets of cognitive synonyms (synsets). Each synset expresses a distinct concept. Synsets are interlinked by both semantic and lexical relations. WordNet is essentially used for word sense disambiguation, information retrieval, and text translation. In this paper, we propose s...

Automated Discovery of WordNet Relations

The WordNet lexical database is now quite large and offers broad coverage of general lexical relations in English. As is evident in this volume, WordNet has been employed as a resource for many applications in natural language processing (NLP) and information retrieval (IR). However, many potentially useful lexical relations are currently missing from WordNet. Some of these relations, while use...

A First Approach Towards an Urdu WordNet

This paper reports on a first experiment with developing a lexical knowledge resource for Urdu on the basis of Hindi WordNet. Due to the structural similarity of Urdu and Hindi, we can focus on overcoming the differences in the scriptual systems of the two languages by using transliterators. Various natural language processing tools, among them a computational semantics based on the Urdu ParGra...

Random Walks for Knowledge-Based Word Sense Disambiguation

Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) systems automatically choose the intended meaning of a word in context. In this article we present a WSD algorithm based on random walks over large Lexical Knowledge Bases (LKB). We show that our algorithm performs better than other graphbased methods when run on a graph built from WordNet and eXtended WordNet. Our algorithm and LKB combination compares favorably...

Lexical Chains on WordNet and Extensions

Lexical chains between two concepts are sequences of semantically related words interconnected via semantic relations. This paper presents a new approach for the automatic construction of lexical chains on knowledge bases. Experiments were performed building lexical chains on WordNet, Extended WordNet, and Extended WordNet Knowledge Base. The research addresses the problems of lexical chains ra...
